DJ Stubben: “I returned to Amarillo from Oregon in March 1981. I loved working for the Newcomer Welcome Service prior to leaving. After calling my former boss to inquire working again for her, she said she’d sold it and bought Welcome Pardner! from a realtor named Jean Lowe. “What’s the difference?” She said instead of hand-delivering the packets, we’d be mailing them. I told her I didn’t feel that was personal. “It’s first class mail and rumor has it that gasoline will soon be 50 cents a gallon!!”
