 Announcement: 2023 Congressional Art Competition

AMARILLO, TX — The Office of Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13) announced it is now accepting submissions for the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. All high school students in Texas’ 13th Congressional District are invited to participate. The winner’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Please submit original artwork and the required entry form to Rep. Jackson’s Amarillo, Wichita Falls, or Denton office by Friday, April 21, 2023 at 5:00PM CT. Submissions can be mailed or dropped off to the Amarillo or Wichita Falls office during the hours of 9:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. Drop off at the Denton office is by appointment only.

Students are encouraged to thoroughly review the competition’s rules and regulations on Rep. Jackson’s website. If you have any questions, please contact Rep. Jackson’s Art Competition Coordinator, Jennifer Hodges at Jennifer.Hodges@mail.house.gov.

This year’s theme is Patriotism, emphasizing love of country and the unique values America represents. Artwork must be two-dimensional and original in concept, design, and execution. Artwork must not be heavier than 15 pounds and no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. The winner must frame their artwork before it is sent to the U.S. Capitol and the piece must continue to meet weight and size regulations.

Accepted mediums for the two-dimensional artwork are as follows:

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
  • Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed)
  • Collages: must be two-dimensional
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums, such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs

Each year Amarillo Women’s Network awards scholarships to deserving female students from the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle.

A “student” is not limited to a recent high school graduate. A student may also be any woman who is entering college for the first time or perhaps returning to finish a degree or obtain an advanced degree.

Scholarships are awarded annually for use the following school year (fall and spring semesters). The number and amount of scholarships are based on available funds.

Every Drop Counts: Now and for the Future

Every Drop Counts Poster Contest is Underway

AMARILLO –  Water is Amarillo’s most precious resource – now and for the future. And the City of Amarillo wants the next generation to help spread the message on the importance of water conservation.

The City of Amarillo (COA) Every Drop Counts Poster Contest has become a summer tradition emphasizing the importance of water conservation. The contest showcases the talents of young artists while increasing awareness of water conservation.

The contest is underway and poster submissions end May 19.

The contest is open to students K-12 in the Texas Panhandle. Thirteen winners will receive a prize, including a dining gift card and Amarillo Sod Poodles merchandise. This is the largest quantity of prizes in EDC history. Winners will also have their artwork featured in the next EDC calendar.

Winners and prizes will be announced during the June 27 Amarillo City Council meeting.

Scholarship Opportunity-Panhandle Great 25 Nurses

The 25 Panhandle Great Nurses Scholarship Committee accepts scholarship applications from nursing students who are enrolled in an accredited undergraduate registered nursing program in the Texas Panhandle. These nursing programs include Amarillo College, Clarendon College, West Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo. Graduate students living in one of the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who are enrolled in an accredited Master’s Degree Program with a Major in Nursing or a Doctoral Degree Program with a Major in Nursing are also invited to apply. Award recipients must be enrolled in a nursing program for the Fall of 2023 and be in good academic standing with a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Scholarship applications are open and Close May 9th at 5:00 pm.  Award recipients will be recognized at the 25 Panhandle Great Nurses ceremony in Amarillo, Texas.
