Pickleball Takes the Court in Amarillo
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Courts Set for Saturday

AMARILLO –New courts for a unique sport in Amarillo will be highlighted Saturday.

The City of Amarillo Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) has scheduled a ceremonial ribbon cutting event for 9 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 10) for nine new pickleball courts at the Amarillo National Tennis Center, located at 5000 Bell St. Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson will be among the attendees.

The pickleball courts are a partnership project between the Amarillo Pickleball Association, Amarillo National Bank, Old Pal Construction Corp. and PARD. The event will include a free “Learn to Play Clinic” hosted by the Amarillo Pickleball Association. In addition, a free “iPOW Grand Opening” Pickleball Tournament begins at 11:00am. Registration for the tournament is first-come, first-served. The tournament is for all skill levels.

“This project was really special for a lot of reasons,” said Director of Amarillo Parks & Recreation Michael Kashuba. “Not only has pickleball grown in popularity, but it also supports a wide age range of players. Pickleball offers a wealth of health and wellness benefits and the new courts allow for plenty of space for residents to play and socialize.

“Our hats go off to Amarillo National Bank, Old Pal Construction and the countless number of volunteers who not only made this project possible, but helped bring world class facilities in Amarillo.”

Along with the newly constructed pickleball courts, the Amarillo National Tennis Center also offers outdoor and indoor tennis courts, youth camps and private and group instruction. For a full list of pricing and available programs, you can visit Amarilloparks.org or call (806) 359-2090.
