Panhandle-Area High School Students Explore Nursing Careers
TTUHSC School of Nursing to Host Free Interactive Camp
WHAT: Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing in Amarillo will host Next Stop Nursing, a free camp for students from Panhandle-area high schools.

EVENT: High school students from the Panhandle interested in exploring careers in nursing will experience hands-on learning activities at the TTUHSC School of Nursing’s Next Stop Nursing Camp. Along with campus tours and mentoring opportunities with current nursing students, camp participants also will experience interactive nursing skill simulations, including CPR and Stop the Bleed training, neonatal assessments, disaster response activities and escape rooms.
WHO: Interviews will be available with TTUHSC School of Nursing Regional Dean Louise Rice, DNP, and other participants.

- Shopping: Over 100 unique booths featuring home décor, boutique clothing, jewelry, and handmade items.
- Bake Sale: Known as the largest bake sale in the Texas Panhandle, featuring decorated cookies, cakes, pies, and specialty mixes.
- Special Events: Past years have included a “Ladies Night Out” VIP shopping event and photo opportunities with Santa.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Amarillo District is conducting a virtual public meeting with in-person options to share information and gather input from the public regarding proposed alterations to the existing median along Business I-40 (Amarillo Boulevard). These improvements include removing the traditional median crossovers in favor of reduced conflict U-turn (RCUT) intersections and improvements to the safety lighting along the corridor between North Western Street and North McMasters Street.
Project elements also include the construction of shared-use paths (SUP) to enhance pedestrian accessibility along the corridor. Pedestrian upgrades will be made at the intersection of Western Street and Ranch-to-Market (RM) 1061 while a full traffic signal upgrade will be completed at the intersection of Ninth Street and McMasters Street. Any environmental documentation or studies, any maps and drawings showing the project location and design, tentative construction schedules, and other information regarding the proposed project are on file and available for inspection Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 5715 Canyon Dr., Amarillo, TX 79110.

Join us for the Domestic Violence Awareness Walk on Thursday, October 1, at 11:30 a.m.
Walk with the Amarillo-Potter-Randall Domestic Violence Coalition as we raise awareness, honor survivors, remember lives lost, and take a stand against domestic violence.
The walk will begin at Legal Aid of Northwest Texas and end at the Potter County Courthouse lawn. Chief Thomas Hover will share a special message alongside survivors and community partners. Free lunch will be provided, courtesy of the Randall County Sheriff’s Association.
