Urgent! Blood donations needed at Coffee Memorial. PLEASE see varied times below!!!!*
We are asking for help and asking our community to help spread the word about the blood donations needed for our community. American Red Cross has already declared a blood emergency but we are trying to avoid that here in our area. With winter weather, unfortunately blood donations go down and this is why we could face a blood emergency,
Potential of Shortage
- Our secure 4-5 day threshold of blood inventory is at a high risk of lowering to critical levels during winter weather.
- Many blood drives are canceled when scheduled during harsh weather conditions, decreasing our usual blood supply.
- A shortage in our lifesaving blood supply means hospitals may not have what they need for local patients.
- With blood collections already low, we are currently sending more blood to area hospitals than we are bringing in.
- Current donation appointments are anticipated to decrease as more freezing conditions move into the area.
- Holiday collections fell short, leaving OBI at a further disadvantage in building collections during winter storms.
- Donor centers will remain open. If it’s safe for our donors to get out, we highly encourage them to come in and give.
Here is what you can do! Please encourage your friends, family and coworkers to come to Coffee Memorial at 7500 Wallace Blvd to give. We are doing fun things each day in the center next week. We are hoping to bring in an extra 50 donations next week to help with the deficit. That is 150 lives saved.
