AMARILLO, Texas — Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley and Mayor Pro Tem Don Tipps will hold a joint press
conference Friday at 4 p.m. at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, located at 10801 Airport
Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79111.
Mayor Stanley will address community concerns regarding the landfill fire and the response efforts
conducted by city staff and personnel following the incident. Mayor Stanley, along with the Mayor Pro
Tem, will answer questions and provide clarification regarding the ongoing investigation into the landfill
fire and the response from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
“At this time, it is extremely important that we continue to come together as a community while thoroughly
researching and investigating all aspects surrounding the landfill fire and its aftermath in order to
provide the public with transparency, accountability, and proper closure regarding these events.”

AMW Launches Graduation Adoption Event to Help Long-Stay Pets Find Homes
AMARILLO – Animal Management & Welfare (AMW) is excited to announce a special Graduation Adoption Event taking place May 21-23. 10am-6pm. The event is designed to help some of the shelter’s longest-resident animals “graduate” from shelter life into loving forever homes.
During the three-day event, all animals that have been in the shelter’s care for 50 days or more will be available for adoption at 50% off standard adoption fees. Currently, 22 long-stay animals are waiting for a second chance, and this initiative aims to spotlight them and connect them with families ready to welcome a new pet.
Adding to the fun, the shelter is offering “Diploma Discounts” for students of all ages. Community members are encouraged to bring a recent report card or diploma, with additional adoption fee discounts based on academic performance. Students with straight A’s can receive up to an additional $20 off their adoption fee.
“Our long-stay animals have been waiting patiently for an opportunity to find a home,” said Kali Dennis, Outreach Manager at AMW. “We want to give them the recognition they deserve as they ‘graduate’ into the next chapter of their lives.”
With the arrival of summer, now is an ideal time to adopt. Families often have more flexibility in their schedules, allowing for a smoother transition and more time to bond with a new pet.
All adopted animals will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go home with their new families.
The community is encouraged to attend, meet these deserving animals and help give them the fresh start they’ve been waiting for.

Something is shifting when it comes to metabolic health.
On Saturday, May 23rd from 10:30 AM–1:30 PM, we’ll be hosting our 3rd Metabolic Reset Experience at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center in Amarillo, and what’s been incredible to watch is how each event continues to grow, more conversations, more awareness, and more stories of hope and change.
People are starting to realize it’s not about trying harder. It’s about understanding what may actually be going on inside the body when energy is low, cravings are high, inflammation increases, or weight loss feels frustratingly stuck.
This free event is designed to help people better understand metabolism and explore a simple, structured approach to supporting their health moving forward. We’ll cover metabolism, energy, cravings, real-life results, and the ripple effect that happens when healthier people begin impacting those around them.
