61st Annual Winter Night Ceremonials!

The Sahawe Dancers from Uvalde, TX arrived at 3:35 am this morning and are probably just waking up at the Kiva.  They have danced with us many times.  They will have four dances of their own, and the veterans may join in some of the Kwahadi dances too.  We are excited and blessed they have come to dance with us!  Ramon Castro, their long-time leader, reports they have a mostly new young group.  The Sahawe have a party of 22 people including 15 dancers.

Be at the Kiva by a. 2:00 to meet the Sahawe group and to get ready for the 3 pm Parent Show.   We hope parents can come out with friends (as we have been encouraging) to give the team a nice audience for the opening show.  KGNC radio (the family station) has been running ads for the show.  The weather may discourage some, but it has been so cold for a while perhaps most folks have accepted it and going on with activities.

In between the shows, Debbie has been helping the parents organize a potluck dinner for everyone.  We have breakfasts foods for them in the morning before they begin the long journey back to Uvalde.

Be sure to check your winter regalia to be sure you have it all.  You are a small, but very talented, dance team, and every dancer is important to making the shows a success!  😊

Look forward to seeing everyone!

Charles

Executive Director

This Sunday, March 29, will be a day of remembering and honoring our military personnel who served in the Vietnam War as well as Veterans who served in WWII, the Korean War, Gulf and Iraq Wars, and Afghanistan War. The Texas Panhandle War Memorial will honor these veterans with a Ceremony beginning at 2:30 pm.

The Vietnam war was a war between North and South Vietnam, with the US and others backing the South and the Soviet Union and China backing the North. The French had previously supported South Vietnam and when the French withdrew in 1955, the US assumed that role. The dates of the war span November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975 when the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, was captured by the North. U. S. troops had left Vietnam by March 29, 1973. The U. S. lost 58,209 Soldiers; 153,303 were wounded.

At the Texas Panhandle War Memorial, 152 names of Panhandle military personnel who gave their life during the Vietnam War are inscribed on the Vietnam War monoliths. We would ask everyone in the Panhandle to remember the sacrifices of our military veterans and their families, and on March 29 call them and thank them for their service.

The ceremony is open to the public.
