ROUTE 66 ROAD RACE RETURNS FOR YEAR TWO, PARTNERING WITH TRANSFORMATION PARK
AMARILLO, TX – The Fitness@KT|Black Run+Walk is back for its second year as part of the 2025 Texas Route 66 Festival
Finale, bringing the community together for an exciting event along historic RT 66 while also making an impact locally. This year, the event will benefit Transformation Park, a new local nonprofit dedicated to serving Amarillo’s homeless population by providing essential resources, housing assistance, and pathways to employment located right on RT 66.
The race is set for June 14, 2025 at 8:00 AM and will include multiple race distances, catering to runners and walkers of all levels. Participants will enjoy a scenic course along Route 66, a participant swag bag, and the exclusive VIP After Party for those looking to celebrate post-race.

The Amarillo League of Women Voters invites the public to our Annual Meeting and Potluck. This free event will take place:
- Saturday, June 14th
- 10:00 a.m.
- Amarillo Area Foundation (919 S. Polk St.).
Everyone is welcome, and League members are strongly encouraged to attend (as members will be voting on the new board, the proposed annual budget, and updates to the by-laws). Please encourage friends and family to join us, learn more about the League, and enjoy the food, community, and educational presentation.
Our speaker this month is Dr. Brian Ingrassia, Associate Professor of History at WTAMU. A vibrant and engaging presenter, as well as a prolific author and editor, the League is thrilled to welcome him to this important annual event. He plans to offer some historical context on our modern democracy, share some insight on the vision our founding fathers, and answer questions from attendees regarding our fascinating and unique US government — so feel free to bring your history-loving friends and family!
Like last year, this meeting will also be a potluck. Drinks will be provided, but we encourage everyone to bring some food to share. About Dr. Brian Ingrassia: Brian Ingrassia joined the WTAMU faculty in 2015. He earned a B.A. in history from Eureka College in 2001 and received his M.A. (2002) and Ph.D. (2008) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Ingrassia specializes in modern American history with a focus on the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (circa 1865 to 1920s), as well as sport history, cultural/intellectual history, and Texas history. At WT, he has taught courses in U.S. history, Texas history, sport history, urban history, and historical methods.
Dr. Ingrassia is the author of Speed Capital: Indianapolis Auto Racing and the Making of Modern America (University of Illinois Press 2024) and The Rise of Gridiron University: Higher Education’s Uneasy Alliance with Big-Time Football (University Press of Kansas 2012). His first book won the annual monograph award from the North American Society for Sport History (NASSH) in 2013, among other commendations. He currently serves as editor of The Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, a quarterly journal published by Cambridge University Press, and also serves as series editor for the Sport and Popular Culture book series at the University of Tennessee Press.
Ingrassia has published more than two dozen book chapters and scholarly articles, including pieces in The Journal of Southern History, Journal of the Early Republic, Sport History Review, and Southwestern Historical Quarterly. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Sport History and the Panhandle-Plains Historical Review. He was featured on an ESPN documentary (2019) about the history of American intercollegiate football. His current book project focuses on expansion and franchise relocation in organized baseball, especially in relation to antitrust law and stadium construction.
