Funding Opportunities for Workforce Development

Amarillo, Texas – August 21, 2024 – Amarillo Economic Development Corporation (Amarillo EDC), in collaboration with the Texas Workforce Commission, is hosting an informative presentation focused on state funding opportunities designed to support the upskilling and reskilling of the local workforce. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. in the Buckingham Room inside of Amarillo Area Foundation. A complimentary breakfast will be provided.

This presentation aims to inform the community about the various funding options available to small and local businesses for employee training programs. These programs are essential for increasing employee retention rates and enhancing recruitment efforts, contributing to the overall growth and economic stability of the community.

Following the formal presentation from the Texas Workforce Commission, a peer panel who have successfully navigated the grant-seeking process and initiated employee training programs will share their experiences. Their insights will offer valuable guidance on how these funding opportunities can drive company growth and positively impact the local economy.

While the event is open to the public, Amarillo EDC and Texas Workforce Commission particularly encourage community leaders, business owners and management, nonprofit agencies, and educational institutions to attend. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about resources that can help build a strong, more skilled workforce.

Randall County Sheriff’s Office Receives “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” from the Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program

The Randall County Sheriff’s Office received the award of “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. In 2006 the Accreditation Program was created to evaluate a Law Enforcement Agency’s compliance with over 173 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These Best Practices were carefully developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service and the protection of individual rights. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations.

This voluntary process required the Randall County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a critical self-review of the agency’s policies, procedures, facilities, and operations. Beginning in June of 2023, the Sheriff’s Office began the lengthy process to become an “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” by preparing proofs of compliance for each of the Texas Law Enforcement Best Business Practices. Upon completion of the internal review, an outside audit and review was requested. The on-site review is conducted by trained Police Chiefs from other areas of our state. The result of this review was then sent to the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Committee for final analysis and decision to award “Accredited” status.

In August 2024, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that it had been awarded the coveted “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” award. The Randall County Sheriff’s Office becomes the second Sheriff’s Office in the state to be accredited. This process provided for an independent review of the Sheriff’s Office operations. It should assure the citizens of Randall County that its Sheriff’s Office is continuously showing dedication to the craft of law enforcement.

The official award presentation will take place during Commissioners Court at 501 16th St., Suite 305, Canyon, TX, on September 10, 2024, at 9:00 am. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office will be honored at the Texas Police Chiefs Association annual conference in April.
