Andrea’s Project, the Amarillo Police Department, and the Texas Department of Transportation invite you to join us for a community press conference:
Friday, September 25, 2026
1:30 p.m.
Amarillo Travel Information Center
9700 I-40 East
Amarillo, TX 79118
This event will recognize the first anniversary of the Amarillo Police Department’s Impaired Driving Unit and mark 10 years since Amarillo Police Officer Justin Scherlen was killed by an impaired driver.
There is a powerful full-circle connection in recognizing that 10 years after Officer Scherlen’s death, the department he faithfully served now has a dedicated unit working to prevent impaired driving and protect other families from experiencing the same devastating loss.
Andrea’s Project will also share information about its new TxDOT-funded prevention work and launch a community storytelling initiative inviting individuals and families impacted by impaired driving to share their experiences. Through these stories, we hope to illustrate the lasting ripple effect impaired driving has on families and communities while strengthening prevention efforts across the Texas Panhandle.
Community members, partners, and members of the media are invited to attend. Please feel free to share the attached flyer with others who may be interested.
We hope you will join us for this meaningful event.
Thank you,
Shanna James, PharmD, CTTS
Executive Director
