Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States, observed on the last Monday in May, dedicated to honoring and mourning military personnel who died in service. Originally known as “Decoration Day” following the Civil War, it was established to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags.
Usually all banks, post offices (and carriers) closed.
Observation of National Missing Children’s Day.
It is a crucial reminder to stay vigilant, support the organizations dedicated to child safety, and keep hope alive for families searching for their missing loved ones.
This year, the Texas Panhandle War Memorial is honored to have Senior Chief Sherry Sanders (Philyaw), distinguished U.S. Navy veteran from Amarillo as our guest speaker.
Our ceremony will include patriotic music, seating for 300 guests, color guard posting of the colors, invocation, singing of the National Anthem, pledge of allegiance, recognition of the service branches, veterans, dignitaries, presentation of wreath and speeches by veteran and community leaders.
