PPHM Invites Young Explorers to Dive into History and Science at Summer Camps
Canyon, Texas — Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum (PPHM) is excited to offer two dynamic and educational summer camps for kids, designed to ignite curiosity and spark imagination. This year’s camps are Boulders, Brands, and Bones Camp and STEAM Camp, each offering a unique, hands-on experience tied to the rich history and scientific wonders of the Texas Panhandle.
Boulders, Brands, and Bones Camp (2nd–5th Grade)
Get ready to dig, build, create, and explore! At Boulders, Brands, and Bones Camp, campers will use their hands as much as their brains as they dive into the worlds of history, art, geology, and the Wild West. Each day brings a new adventure—whether it’s STEAM, dinosaurs, geology, or panhandle culture, there’s something new to discover every day! Special guests from the Discovery Center, Wild Hanbury’s, and Dove Creek Equine Rescue will bring the learning to life—whether it’s up-close animal encounters, scientific discoveries, or cowboy culture in action. Cost is $75 (PPHM members) and $95 (PPHM nonmembers) and includes a free t-shirt.
STEAM Camp (3rd-6th grades)
Focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, STEAM Camp combines creativity with critical thinking. Campers will conduct experiments, build, and design, in a way that brings science and innovation to life. With the help of our wonderful community partners, Discovery Center and Pantex, campers will be exposed to the world of STEAM as it relates to daily lives and various careers as well. Cost is $75 (PPHM members) and $95 (PPHM nonmembers) and includes a free t-shirt.

Crisis Response Educational Summit to Strengthen Amarillo’s Safety Net Systems
Amarillo, TX – June 24, 2025 – Andrea’s Project, in partnership with the Amarillo Continuum of Care, Panhandle Behavioral Health Alliance, Coming Home and other key community stakeholders, will host the Crisis Response Educational Summit: “Who to Call When – Empowering Collaboration for Safer Communities” on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Amarillo Area Foundation, 801 S. Fillmore St.
This first-of-its-kind summit brings together emergency responders, social service providers, mental health professionals, and community members to increase awareness of available crisis services and improve local referral pathways. Participants will learn about real-time alternatives to 911, how to conduct warm handoffs, and the critical role of each agency in supporting individuals experiencing a behavioral health or housing crisis.
Highlights include:
- Rapid-Fire Program Overviews featuring 13 local crisis and support agencies
- Interactive Panel Discussions on mental health and substance use response
- Facilitated Table Conversations to identify local barriers and solutions
- Networking opportunities with over 75 registrants from across sectors
“Too often, confusion about who to call in a crisis leads to unnecessary emergency room visits, law enforcement involvement, or missed opportunities for care,” said Shanna
James, Executive Director of Andrea’s Project and Chair of the Amarillo Continuum of Care. “This summit will help bridge those gaps and move our community toward better coordination and faster, more compassionate responses.”
Media are invited to attend and are encouraged to contact Shanna James for interview opportunities or on-site coverage.
Warm regards,
Dr. Shanna James
