Teens at Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo Host Car Wash to Raise Funds for Bus Repairs!

WHO:  Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo

WHAT: Carwash and Lemonade Stand

WHEN: Friday, July 12th

TIME:   9:00 AM to 12:30 PM

WHERE: Burger King 1800 S. Georgia St. Amarillo, TX 79109

CONTACT: Ashley Howard, ashleyh@maverickclub.org, (918) 801-6608

The teens of the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo are rolling up their sleeves and putting on a carwash to raise much-needed funds for bus repairs. The event will take place on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Burger King located on Georgia Street. Alongside the carwash, the teens will also be running a lemonade stand to refresh those who stop by to support this crucial cause.

“The idea came from the kids! Back when we had a bus breakdown in the school year, United Way was gracious to pay half of that bill with emergency funds. We were trying to think of ways to raise the other half of the bill, which is a little over $4,000.  The kids said we can have a car wash! Why can’t we raise our own money?”, said Donna Soria, CEO. “They have been planning since before summer.”

The teens are enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to their community and help ensure the continuity of the Club’s services. By washing cars and selling lemonade, they aim to raise the necessary funds to get the buses back in working order. “We hope the community will come out to support us,” said Kai, a teen member of the Club. “Every car washed, and every cup of lemonade sold brings us one step closer to fixing our buses.”

The Maverick Boys & Girls Club relies heavily on its buses for various essential activities, including field trips and transporting children from schools to the main Dykeman Site. Unfortunately, these buses are currently in desperate need of repairs, risking our ability to serve the kids in Amarillo who need us most. “Our buses are a lifeline for the children we serve,” said Donna Soria, CEO/Executive Director of the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo. “Without them, we would struggle to provide safe and reliable transportation for our kids, which is why this carwash is so important.”

The Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo invites all community members to join them at Burger King on Georgia Street this Friday. Your support will help guarantee that the children of Amarillo have the transportation they need to access the enriching programs and activities offered by the Club. Together, we can make a difference and keep our buses running smoothly for the kids who depend on them.

Wreath Laying Ceremony

Tim Reid

Executive Director

This year the Texas Panhandle War Memorial, together with Wreaths Across America, is sponsoring a wreath ceremony at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 10:00 am. The ceremony will honor and remember our Veterans from each of the service branches who have passed from this life.

The ceremony will take 15 to 20 minutes.  This will give time to travel to either Llano Cemetery or Memorial Park Cemetery to participate in laying wreaths on Veterans graves. Both will start wreath laying at 11:00 am.

The ceremony is being planned to be outside, weather permitting.  If the weather is too severe then we will move inside the Education Center.

Thank you for supporting the Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center and Wreaths Across America and helping us to fulfill our missions to Remember, Honor, and Teach.
