Texas streak reaches tragic 25 years of daily deaths TxDOT urges public to #EndTheStreakTX

AMARILLO – Every day for the past 25 years, someone has died in a crash in Texas.
There have been more than 91,000 lives lost in traffic crashes since Nov. 7, 2000. This Friday will mark 25 years since the last deathless day on Texas roads.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) calls on everyone to help finally #EndTheStreakTX. Ending the streak will require every single driver to consistently make safe decisions every time they get behind the wheel.
*In the Amarillo District in 2024, there were 8,419 traffic crashes, resulting in 99 fatalities and 365 serious injuries.
We all want to get to our destination safely. If everyone remembers who they are as Texans behind the wheel and drive kind, courteous and safe, then we can save lives.
To drive this point home and make it tangible for everyone, a 45-foot banner will be on display to show the impact that traffic crashes can have on those involved. Local law enforcement and TxDOT staff will be in attendance to speak about the importance of practicing safe driving techniques and how it can save lives.
