AFD and APD Partner for Stand Down for Safety Focused on First Responder Mental Health

Amarillo, Texas – October 2, 2026 – The Amarillo Fire Department will hold its annual Stand Down for Safety event October 5–8, 2026, with a focus on the work being done to promote mental health and awareness among first responders. This year, AFD is partnering with the Amarillo Police Department to bring attention to the importance of supporting the people who serve our community.

The event will highlight efforts to increase mental health awareness, encourage conversations about the challenges first responders face, and reinforce the importance of seeking support. The partnership provides an opportunity for both departments to share their commitment to first responder well-being.

“The Amarillo Fire Department’s mission is to protect our community by providing the highest quality of compassionate and professional services and that begins with taking care of the mental health of the guys providing that service.”

Members of the media are invited to interview key leaders and participants in the program on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Amarillo Fire Administration, 310 S. Van Buren St. Interviews will provide an opportunity to learn more about the program, the work underway, and the AFD and APD partnership.
