Event: Safe Haven Baby Box Dedication Location: Fire Station No. 9, 2015 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79109Date: February 4, 2026Time: 1:00 PMAmarillo Fire Department Invites Community to Dedication of Amarillo’s First Safe Haven Baby Box Amarillo, TX – February 4, 2026 – The Amarillo Fire Department (AFD) invites the community and media to attend the dedication of Amarillo’s first Safe Haven Baby Box, taking place at Fire Station No. 9, located at 2015 Paramount Boulevard, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. The dedication ceremony will formally place the Safe Haven Baby Box into service and will include a blessing of the box, remarks from Amarillo Fire Department leadership, city officials, community partners, and representatives involved in bringing this life-saving resource to Amarillo.The Safe Haven Baby Box provides a secure, climate-controlled, and anonymous option for parents in crisis to safely surrender an infant. Once a baby is placed inside the box, automatic alerts notify on-duty firefighters, ensuring an immediate response and prompt medical care. “This is an important and compassionate step for our community,” said Amarillo Fire Department leadership. “The Safe Haven Baby Box provides a safe, legal option that protects infant lives while offering dignity and privacy to parents during moments of crisis. ”Texas Safe Haven law allows a parent to surrender an infant, typically 60 days old or younger, at designated Safe Haven locations without fear of prosecution, provided the child shows no signs of abuse or neglect. Fire Station No. 9 is staffed 24 hours a day, making it an ideal location for this service. Members of the public and media are encouraged to attend and help raise awareness of this important community resource. Safety Reminder: Safe Haven Baby Boxes and staffed Safe Haven locations provide a safe, anonymous, and legal alternative for parents in crisis. No child should ever be left in an unsafe location.
