On Friday, January 9th, at 4:30 PM, the Panhandle Restaurant Association will award a total of $28,000 to the Amarillo Independent School District’s culinary education programs, Hereford’s culinary education programs and to local non-profit organizations.
AISD high schools provide culinary arts classes to high school students. The AmTech Career Academy School of Culinary Arts provides AISD high school students with job related training and education that prepares them to enter the hospitality industry upon graduation.
The donation to AISD and Hereford is $12,000. The High Plains Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and Snack Pak for Kids will each receive $4,000 to further each organization’s efforts. In addition, the Amarillo Area Foundation will receive $4000 to provide scholarships to students working in the food service industry or who wish to attend restaurant/hospitality related college programs.
The PRA hosts fundraisers including Restaurant Round Up and the PRA Golf Tournament. The PRA donations are provided to enable and encourage students to enter the restaurant industry. The PRA board selects the organizations to receive the donations.
PRA Executive Board members will make the presentation in the lobby of the Barfield Hotel and encourage local media to attend.
The Panhandle Restaurant Association is the local chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association. The TRA is an industry advocate and resource for its members in the food service and hospitality industry.
