lorectal cancer impacts both men and women. Almost all colorectal cancers
begin as precancerous polyps in the colon. These polyps can exist for year
s before invasive cancer develops. Colorectal polyps and colorectal cancer
do not always cause symptoms\, especially at first. That is why getting s
creened regularly for colorectal cancer is so important.  Screening can fi
nd the precancerous polyps so they can be removed before they turn into ca
ncer or early in their development\, when treatment works best.\nThe CDC r
ecommends that adults age 45 to 75 be screened for colorectal cancer. Peop
le at an increased risk of getting colorectal cancer should talk to their
doctor about when to begin screening\, which test is right for them and ho
w often to get tested.\nSymptoms may include a change in bowel habits\, bl
ood in or on stool\, diarrhea\, constipation\, or feeling that the bowel d
oes not empty all the way\, abdominal pain\, aches\, or cramps that don’t
go away\, and losing weight.\nThe risk of getting colorectal cancer increa
ses as people age. Most cases occur in people who are 50 years old or olde
 r. Other risk factors include having inflammatory bowel\ndisease\, a perso
nal or family history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyp or a geneti
c syndrome. Lifestyle factors that may contribute to an increased risk of
 colorectal cancer include obesity\, alcohol consumption\, tobacco use\, a

 a low-fiber and high-fat diet\, or a diet high in processed meats.\nTo lea

Amarillo\, TX 79118\n \n\n\nMEDIA:\nTxDOT seeks to raise awareness about w

kes to read this sentence\, Texans can click their seat belt and save them
selves from an early grave — and save their loved ones from the sorrow of
preventable loss. To raise awareness\, TxDOT will host it’s Click It or Ti
cket event at the Travel Information Center on Tuesday\, May 21 at 10 a.m.
\nRepresentatives from the Amarillo Police Department\, Potter County Sher
iff’s Office\, Department of Public Safety and other agencies will join Tx
DOT to speak about the impact of not wearing your seat belt. *In 2023\, th
ere were 62 motor vehicle traffic crashes in the Amarillo District in whic
h unrestrained occupants sustained fatal or serious injuries\; these crash
es resulted in 21 fatalities and 45 serious injuries. Statewide\, there we
re 1\,183 traffic fatalities in which vehicle occupants failed to wear a s
eatbelt.\nIn addition to conducting educational outreach\, the campaign pa
rtners with Texas law enforcement around the state to step up enforcement
of seat belt and car seat laws from May 20 through June 2\, including Memo
rial Day weekend. Texas law requires everyone in a vehicle to buckle up or
face fines and court costs up to $200. Children younger than 8 years old
must be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they’re taller than
4 feet 9 inches. If they aren’t properly restrained\, the driver faces fin
es up to $250 plus court costs. TxDOT offers free safety seat inspections
across the state.\nSince Click It or Ticket was launched in Texas in 2002\
, the seat belt use rate has increased from 76% to more than 90%. Now\, 9
of every 10 Texas motorists buckle up. The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration estimates that the Click It or Ticket initiative has saved
more than 7\,800 lives\, prevented 139\,000 serious injuries\, and result
ed in $40 billion in economic savings since its inception in 2002.\n \nTxD
OT’s Click It or Ticket campaign is a key component of #EndTheStreakTX\, a
broader social media and word-of-mouth effort that encourages drivers to
make safer choices while behind the wheel to help end the streak of daily
deaths. Nov. 7\, 2000\, was the last deathless day on Texas roadways.\n \n

ay\, May 21 at 10 a.m.</p>\n<p>Representatives from the Amarillo Police De
partment\, Potter County Sheriff’s Office\, Department of Public Safety an
d other agencies will join TxDOT to speak about the impact of not wearing
your seat belt. *In 2023\, there were 62 motor vehicle traffic crashes in
the Amarillo District in which unrestrained occupants sustained fatal or s
erious injuries\; these crashes resulted in 21 fatalities and 45 serious i
njuries. Statewide\, there were 1\,183 traffic fatalities in which vehicle
occupants failed to wear a seatbelt.</p>\n<p>In addition to conducting ed
ucational outreach\, the campaign partners with Texas law enforcement arou
nd the state to step up enforcement of seat belt and car seat laws from Ma
y 20 through June 2\, including Memorial Day weekend. Texas law requires e
veryone in a vehicle to buckle up or face fines and court costs up to $200
. Children younger than 8 years old must be in a child safety seat or boos
ter seat unless they’re taller than 4 feet 9 inches. If they aren’t proper
ly restrained\, the driver faces fines up to $250 plus court costs. TxDOT
offers free safety seat inspections across the state.</p>\n<p>Since Click
It or Ticket was launched in Texas in 2002\, the seat belt use rate has in
creased from 76% to more than 90%. Now\, 9 of every 10 Texas motorists buc
kle up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that
the Click It or Ticket initiative has saved more than 7\,800 lives\, preve
nted 139\,000 serious injuries\, and resulted in $40 billion in economic s
avings since its inception in 2002.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>TxDOT’s Click It or
Ticket campaign is a key component of #EndTheStreakTX\, a broader social m
edia and word-of-mouth effort that encourages drivers to make safer choice
s while behind the wheel to help end the streak of daily deaths. Nov. 7\,
2000\, was the last deathless day on Texas roadways.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Con
