Maverick: TELL ME THIS ISN’T A GOOD MAVERICK KIDS STORY
Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo Aviation Experience!

The Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo is excited to share that our youth will have the opportunity to participate in a special aviation experience this Saturday through Young Eagles and volunteer pilots from across the region!

Students will get hands-on exposure to aviation while learning about aircrafts, flight safety, and the world of flying alongside local pilots and aviation professionals.

We would love to invite you to come out and see this incredible experience as our kids take to the skies for a day they will never forget.

Join us Saturday, May 9th at 9:00 AM at Blue Sky Aviation located at 14232 S Washington St.

Pilots from across the region are donating their time, aircraft, fuel, and maintenance services to provide a once-in-a-lifetime aviation experience for up to 25 children from the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo. As part of the event, the children will participate in a special flyover honoring the life and legacy of Captain Horace Roy Burnett during his celebration of life ceremony.

The day will begin with donuts and an introduction to the world of aviation. Before taking flight, the children will suit up in protective gear and work alongside volunteer pilots and aviation professionals to learn the fundamentals of aircraft safety and operation. Participants will be guided through pre-flight safety inspections, introduced to the different parts and functions of an aircraft, and shown how pilots prepare planes for takeoff. The experience is designed to give the children hands-on exposure to aviation while building confidence, teamwork, and curiosity about careers in flight and aerospace.

The Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo serves as many as 650 children each day, with nearly 90 percent of those youth living below the poverty line. For many of these children, opportunities to experience aviation or explore careers in the field would otherwise be out of reach. Organizers hope this event will inspire the next generation by opening doors to possibilities they may have never imagined. By exposing children to new experiences and mentors, community leaders and volunteers believe they can ignite a lifelong passion for learning, discovery, and ambition. They hope the event serves as a reminder that every child deserves the chance to dream bigger than their circumstances.
