There are so many great things to do in Amarillo, like going to a concert at the Amarillo Symphony. There are still tickets available for events this season!

According to their website:

The Amarillo Symphony artistically serves a region of 25,000 square miles and beyond. Since 1924, the Symphony has been committed to providing art, fostering education, and encouraging people from all walks of life to experience the power of music.

The Amarillo Symphony believes there is power in music…to inspire, captivate, engage, heal, and unite people.  In that spirit, we are committed to:

  • Using music to bring our community together
  • Being an arts leader, leading with respect, tolerance, and humility.
  • Making everyone feel welcome, including but not limited to those historically excluded due to race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, age, ability, and the intersection of various other identities.
  • Engaging our community with captivating programs that reflect our region’s diversity.
  • Actively championing music that promotes cultural equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in all we do.

Train Trips

Rocky Mountaineer

Rocky Mountaineer offers luxury daylight train excursions through the American and Canadian Rockies and the American Southwest. They are the largest privately owned luxury tourist train company in the world.

According to the Rocky Mountaineer website:

Rocky Mountaineer offers luxury train journeys through Western Canada and the American Southwest. Our world-renowned train travels by daylight and is the best way to experience some of the most spectacular scenery North America has to offer.

Closest to Amarillo is their Rockies to the Red Rocks trip. Travelling from Denver to Moab on a two or six-day trip.

Experience the American Southwest on our newest route, Rockies to the Red Rocks which travels between Denver, Colorado, and Moab, Utah, with an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Like our three Canadian rail routes, our two-day Rockies to the Red Rocks route is steeped in history and full of opportunities to explore the ever-changing scenery and iconic destinations of the region. Breathtaking plains, mountain vistas and chromatic deserts are just the beginning. The train winds alongside towering canyons that have been carved away by the Colorado River as it travels between the mile-high city of Denver and the red sandstone mountains of Moab.

Director’s Note

Museums are important in many ways, and some of the ways museums enrich their communities may surprise you. Over the next few issues, I will share data from the American Alliance of Museums that illustrates how important they really are. Last month,  I shared some data about how museums are Economic Engines. This month, I’ll share a few reasons why museums are important anchors in their communities.

Museums Are Community Anchors

  • In determining America’s Best Cities, Bloomberg placed the greatest weight on “leisure amenities [including density of museums], followed by educational metrics and economic metrics…then crime and air quality.”

  • Money’s annual ‘Best Places to Live’ survey incorporates the concentration of accredited museums.

Supporting Museums supports your local economy, creates jobs, and anchor community life! Please consider supporting the Amarillo Depot with a monthly donation.
