What:             Free Home Buyer & Home Improvement Education Class

When:                        Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Where:           Cactus Cove Inn and Suites meeting room,  2501 East Interstate 40, Amarillo, TX

Why:              Did you know that 50% of El Barrio residents currently own their homes and several of these homes have been owned for three generations? This new percentage is a 2% increase from 2022 and our goal is to raise home ownership in El Barrio neighborhood to at least 55%.

Home ownership helps to improve El Barrio neighborhood by taking better care of your yard and property, having safer neighborhoods, and our families tend to live in their homes longer. To encourage and increase home ownership and home improvement, the Barrio Neighborhood Planning Committee (BNPC) will co-host a free home buyers and home improvement education class, in English and Spanish, with the Amarillo National Bank mortgage staff. This class will be held in the Cactus Cove Inn and Suites meeting room on the northside of the hotel in Amarillo, Texas at 6:00 p.m. Please park on the northside of the hotel.

During this class, you will learn about:

                        1) available homes for sale in or near the Barrio by a local realtor.

                        2) the process to get mortgage or home improvement financing.

                        3) tips for becoming a successful home owner.

                        4) partners and resources available to future home owners.

We invite all adults to participate in this free class and you are welcome to bring your children. Spanish interpreters will be available and other interpreters will be provided by the United Refugees Services nonprofit.

Free bottled water, a free dinner from a food truck, and door prizes will be provided by Amarillo National Bank.

The Barrio Neighborhood Planning Committee, a nonprofit 501c3 organization, was established in March 2017 in coordination with the City of Amarillo with a mission of preserving and revitalizing El Barrio neighborhood.
