On Friday, the City of Amarillo officially opened its new, inclusive playground structure at Thompson Park, north of the Amarillo Zoo. The playground was designed to welcome children and adults of “all abilities,” using funds from a Community Development Block Grant and bond totaling less than $2 million.
According to city officials, the one-of-a-kind playground is intended to support “many physical, sensory, cognitive and developmental needs.”
“This playground is such an important investment in the future of the city,” said Community Development Managing Director Jason Riddlespurger in a press release. “We were thrilled to be able to help with the grant funding and to work with our Parks and Recreation Department. This is something the whole city can celebrate.”
