Mural unveiling at La Plazita Park
Jun 30 @ 11:30 am – 12:15 pm

Come to celebrate with the BNPC board members for the unveiling of the new colorful mural in the future La Plazita Park, located inside 918 South Houston Street, and painted by a local mural artist, Liz Cuevas.

This mural project was funded by Education Credit Union. The south brick wall space was donated by Martha Hernandez, the owner of Martha’s Hair Salon.

Free Philly water ice drinks will be donated by new food truck owners, AJ and Candice Rojas, and the BNPC will serve free bottled water.

The Barrio Neighborhood Planning Committee, a nonprofit 501c3 organization and a registered neighborhood association, was established in March 2017 in coordination with the City of Amarillo with the mission of preserving, revitalizing, and educating El Barrio neighborhood for all generations. The BNPC board implements the 2018 city-council approved neighborhood plan, meets quarterly, and conducts five to six fundraisers annually. Our next project is raising $230,000 funds to build La Plazita Park, at 918 South Houston, which will be the first free WIFI community green space park in Amarillo.

For more information or to get involved with the BNPC, please contact Teresa Kenedy, President, at (806) 437-6592, visit our website at amarillobarrioneighborhood.com, or email us at: bnpamarillo@gmail.com.

2026 Jim Laughlin AC June Jazz Series
Jun 30 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Amarillo College invites the community to enjoy an evening of live music, local talent and summer tradition during the 2026 Jim Laughlin AC June Jazz Series. The annual concert series brings together accomplished regional musicians and jazz enthusiasts for free weekly performances throughout June.

“All of these groups bring something unique to the stage, from classic big band sounds to contemporary jazz influences,” said Jim Laughlin, AC professor of music. “The June Jazz Series has always been about creating a welcoming space where the community can come together to enjoy great music and celebrate the art of jazz.”

All concerts are free and begin at 7:30 p.m. this summer on the Washington Street Campus at the Experimental Theatre Porch. Audience members are also invited to stay for the After Hours Jam from 9-10 p.m. in the Amphitheater Pit, where musicians and guests can continue the evening with informal performances and collaboration.

This year’s [final] lineup includes a variety of styles and performers:

  • June 30 — Jim Laughlin
The series concludes with a performance led by Jim Laughlin, celebrating the musical legacy and community spirit that inspired the annual concert series.

During each concert, Badger Central Café and Bookstore—located in the adjacent College Union Building—will be open for service and merchandise sales.

Concerts can also be heard on FM90/KACV-FM at 89.9 MHz or streamed online.

Community members interested in supporting the Jim Laughlin June Jazz Series may make a donation through the Amarillo College Music program.
