Memorable Events for January 28

 1855 – The first locomotive runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean on the Panama Railway.

1915 – The U.S. Coast Guard is created as a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

1956 – Elvis Presley makes his first national television appearance.

1958 – The Lego company patents the design of its Lego bricks.

1986 – Space Shuttle Challenger explodes 75 seconds after liftoff from Cape Canaveral, killing all seven crew members.

National Gift of the Ladybug Day on January 28th honors all children with critical illnesses. The day is also an opportunity to raise awareness of childhood illnesses and support the children and the families facing medical differences.
