Amarillo set to have its first ever
LEGOconvention in January

Amarillo will have its first ever LEGO
convention when the Amarillo Brick

Convention arrives at the Amarillo Civ-
ic Center Complex on Jan. 4 and 5. Ac-
cording to organizers, it will be the ulti-
mate event for LEGOlovers of all ages,

and tickets are expected to sell out.

For the Amarillo convention, profes-
sional LEGO artists from around the

U.S. will display their LEGO creations
and meet with fans. Attendees will be
able to get creative in the Construction
__ ….,.-_~__ Zone, as well as live builds to watch
and engage with. Galleries will also

have life-sized LEGO models on dis-
play. Other attractions include LEGO

merchandise for sale, as well as a Star
Wars Zone, Castle Build Zone, and a
Fan Zone. Advance tickets are $14.99

Amarillo Public Library partners
with PCS for health insurance
enrollment support
The open enrollment period for
health insurance purchased through the
Affordable Care Act Marketplace runs

now through Jan. 15. Once again, Ama-
rillo Public Library is partnering with

Panhandle Community Services to help

uninsured individuals and families ac-
quire insurance coverage. On several

Saturdays during the Open Enrollment
period, certified Health Care Navigators

will be available at various APL loca-
tions to help people understand, apply

for, and enroll in Medicaid and Market-
place insurance. This includes helping

people discover low-cost options and

tax credits available through the Mar-
ketplace.

Sessions run from 11a.m. to 3 p.m.
and include Dec. 14 at the North Branch
Library, Dec. 21at the Northwest Branch

Library, Jan. 4 at the East Branch Li-
brary and Jan. 11 at the Southwest

Branch Library.

The first Saturdays in December through April the Texas Panhandle War Memorial will host a one-hour lecture/seminar, “Reflections on the Military” on topics related to military history and service. These lectures/seminars are free to the public. They are held at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center, 4111 S. Georgia, at 1:00 p.m. Light snacks are available to the attendees.

This Saturday, December 7, our guest speaker will be Valmir Afizi.  Originally from Kosovo, Afizi will discuss his childhood and the tragedies he witnessed to his family.  Afizi will speak about his immigration to the United States from Kosovo and his relationship with United States soldiers.

Additionally, there will be a short remembrance honoring those who gave their lives December 7, 1941, the day that has lived in infamy.

Take advantage of this free presentation and tour our military history education center and

museum, test your knowledge in our high-tech Education Center with five computer kiosks

displaying information about 11 U. S. wars, and visit our outdoor displays including a Huey

helicopter, supersonic jet fighter/bomber, a piece of the USS Arizona deck and superstructure,

and our monuments to over 1,550 Panhandle residents who gave their lives in combat.

We encourage you to visit our Education Center Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport to Host TSA PreCheck®  Enrollment Event

AMARILLO – Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport (RHAIA) will host a TSA PreCheck® enrollment event in collaboration with IDEMIA, a TSA PreCheck authorized enrollment provider.

Travelers will be able to enroll at RHAIA from January 7-10 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The program is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and lawful permanent residents.

The enrollment process is quick, convenient and even faster when the application is completed online beforehand. The in-person enrollment requires that applicants provide proof of identity, proof of citizenship, fingerprints and a photo .  IDEMIA offers TSA PreCheck enrollment for $78 and if approved, travelers get a five-year membership with the program.

Following the in-person enrollment appointment, most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) in about three to five days. The KTN number must be added to flight reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck benefits.

TSA PreCheck was created in December 2011 as a way to provide low-risk travelers with a smoother experience through airport security. It is a great option for travelers looking to save time.  Enrolled members do not need to remove shoes, laptops, 3-1-1 liquids, belts, or light jackets. They also access TSA PreCheck dedicated screening lanes at over 200 participating U.S. airports nationwide.

If you are unable to make the RHAIA enrollment event, but are still interested in enrolling in TSA PreCheck, please complete the application online and schedule an appointment at one of our 550+ enrollment centers nationwide.
