The Panhandle Great 25 Nurses is celebrating its 8th year honoring nurses for their selfless contributions to patients, families, and communities in the Texas Panhandle. Registered Nurses continue to be recognized for the highest ethical standards as we provide skilled care at the bedside, lead and mentor other nurses, educate students and staff, and work tirelessly to improve the health and quality of life for all.
Please consider nominating a worthy RN colleague, family member, friend, or neighbor for our 2024 Panhandle Great 25 Nurses award. We always encourage you to interview the nurse you want to nominate so you can include their inspiring stories in the following four categories of your nomination:

AMARILLO – The City of Amarillo (COA) Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare Department (AAMW) is again joining the national campaign to help pet adoption – NBC’s Clear the Shelters initiative.
Clear the Shelters runs from Aug. 10 through Sept. 30.
This will be the 10th year for the campaign nationally – with more than 1 million animals adopted across the country during Clear the Shelters in 2023.
“Clear the Shelters is a wonderful program that really helps increase public awareness of pet adoption,” said AAMW Outreach Coordinator Samantha Bennett. “We look forward to participating in this event every year. It really helps highlight the need in the Amarillo community for pet adoption, in addition to the many services provided here at AAMW.”
AAMW is providing a Clear the Shelters special throughout August. Adoption fees for dogs are $25 and cats are $5. Fees include spaying/neutering, vaccinations and micro-chipping. Specific information regarding animals available for adoption at AAMW (including photos, breed, age, etc.) is available online at:

On Aug 29-31, 2024, a weekend of social dance events for singles & couples ages 18+, will take place in Amarillo, TX at the Rolling Hills Riding Club- 5901 Sierra Hills Rd. The events will feature 4 different dance style lessons, such as East Coast Swing, Cha Cha, Country Western Swing & 3 Step, with a fun dance open to the public on Aug 31. There will be great music of all genres & food trucks to satisfy all appetites. This special event is hosted by Michael Piland of Michael’s Social Dance. Michael originates from the DFW area & has 30 + years experience in dance & 17 years experience in dance instruction. Michael’s goal is to teach others about the importance of dance between partners & how it can create a special & unique bond & enhance romantic relationships.
Classes are $15 per class. Dance admission is free with any class purchase. Dance only is $25/person & is open to the public.
